Saint Paul School Pre-Kindergarten Program

Activities Objectives
1 Religious instruction - integrated throughout the daily program (includes beginning/ending/snack time prayer) 1 To help develop a child's concept of a loving God and an awareness of Him in simple, prayerful language.
2 Free play and workshop (directed lessons in art, crafts and formal play) 2 To provide structured and unstructured activities to stimulate peer interaction in order to introduce the children to different play things, art activities and art media.
3 Calendar activities 3 To teach awareness of the world around us and to introduce weather and seasonal changes.
4 Show and tell 4 To encourage expressive language; to extend and to reinforce language skills; to develop: listening skills; to develop self-confidence and self-esteem.
5 Math - readiness activities will be provided 5 To introduce number concepts, number sequencing and shapes.
6 Reading - readiness activities will be provided 6 To teach letter recognition and sequencing (only in the Pre-K 4 program).
7 Hands-on Science activities will be provided 7 To develop gross motor skills through creative play.
8 Outdoor play (weather permitting) 8 To begin the ongoing development of fine motor skills.
9 Cutting, tracing, drawing, pasting and other activity skills 9 To learn new songs and to develop an appreciation for music.
10 Musical activities held daily 10 To learn an appreciation for literature as well as listening skills; to retell story events from memory recall.
11 Story Time 11 To develop proper social manners.
12 Snack Time
