Holiday Fun

Our Religious Education program recently sponsored an intergenerational evening celebrating Advent. We called it our Parish Family in Faith Night.  We started with a delicious spaghetti dinner.  After dinner we gathered the children around the piano and sang Christmas carols.  We then separated into age-appropriate groups with the children watching a Nativity video and creating several crafts: an Advent wreath, a Christmas tree decoration, a pinecone bird feeder, and edible garlands for wildlife – we want to make sure we take of God’s creatures!  The adults spent time with Sr. Jean learning about the Advent and Christmas Scriptures. This is the second year we’ve held an Advent Parish Family Faith Night and hope to expand the concept this year to include a program during Lent.

Our Religious Education program sponsored a food drive in October for NCCS (Newaygo County Community Services).  The students, families and parishioners contributed enough food and paper goods to line the hallway of the education wing.  Parishioners contributed 534 pounds of food and $458.00 that included $58.00 contributed as returnable cans and bottles.  The $458.00 was doubled by the Fremont Area Community Foundation to make a total donation to NCCS of $916.00 to help purchase items for the food pantry.

Our first graders are learning about the liturgical year.  They made these personal size banners to show them what colors are used throughout the liturgical year and what events coincide with the liturgical colors.
