Right-to-Life of Michigan
advises that a petition being circulated to change Michigan's Constitution should not be signed. It is an effort to allow the killing of human embryos for stem cell research. The petition promises cures for cancer, spinal cord injuries and diabetes. These are false promises and lies. There is much hope, however, in the use of adult stem cells in the treatment of patients with autoimmune diseases and cardiovascular disorders. For more information, see the website of Michigan Right to Life at livewire@rtl.org.

Help Prevent Child Abuse:
Three children a day die from abuse; 44% of them are infants under the age of one.
Five Steps to Safer Environments
The Diocese mandates that all people who work with children and youth in our parishes and schools must undergo child abuse
prevention training through the VIRTUS program. The training details five steps to prevent child sexual abuse: Know the warning signs of an inappropriate relationship with a child.
1. Know the warning signs!
2. Control access to children by carefully selecting the adults who work with children and youth.
3. Monitor all programs for the safety of children and youth.
4. Be aware of and sensitive to what is going on in the lives of children.
5. Communicate concerns to the appropriate person in authority.
For more information on learning how you can help ensure the safety of children, you may call Tom Dalton, 616-243-0491 at
the Offices of the Diocese of Grand Rapids.

A little girl asked her father, "How did the human race appear?" The father answered, "God made Adam and
Eve and they had children and so was all mankind made." Two days later the girl asked her mother the same question. The mother answered, "Many years ago there were monkeys from
which the human race evolved." The confused girl returned to her father and said, "Dad, how is it possible that you told me the human race was created by God, and Mom said they
developed from monkeys?" The father answered, "Well, dear, it is very simple. I told you about my side of the family and you mother told you about hers."
