"ENCOUNTERING THE HOLINESS OF GOD ” Rarely do all three readings have a common thread. Today we can find one: our unworthiness before the holiness of God. Isaiah, Paul, and Peter all had an experience of what it means to be in the presence of the living God: All bow down in the presence of divinity and then all are sent forth to do God’s work. Have we lost sight of the fact that this is the living God: Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier? Have we all become a little noisy after Mass? Might a little awe and trembling be in order on occasion? After all, at every Mass we say right before receiving Communion, “Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.”

You must know that the Holy Spirit, in order to cause a soul to advance in spirituality...educates the hearing before coming to the vision.
Listen, my child, he says, and see...Only the hearing attains to truth because it perceives the Verb.
And thus one must awaken the hearing and train it to receive the truth.~St. Bernard
