Practices

The Ten Commandments

  1. You shall honor no other god but me.
  2. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
  3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath.
  4. Honor your father and your mother.
  5. You shall not kill.
  6. You shall not commit adultery.
  7. You shall not steal.
  8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
  9. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
  10. You shall not covet your neighbor's goods.

The Two Great Commandments

  • You shall love the Lord, your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.
  • You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Beatitudes

  1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  2. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
  3. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
  4. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
  5. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
  6. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
  7. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
  8. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Corporal or Material Works of Mercy

  1. To feed the hungry.
  2. To give drink to the thirsty.
  3. To clothe the naked.
  4. To visit the imprisoned.
  5. To shelter the homeless.
  6. To visit the sick.
  7. To bury the dead.

Spiritual Works of Mercy

  1. To admonish the sinner.
  2. To instruct the ignorant.
  3. To counsel the doubtful.
  4. To comfort the sorrowful.
  5. To bear wrongs patiently.
  6. To forgive all injuries.
  7. To pray for the living and the dead.

The Precepts of the Catholic Church

The precepts of the church represent what the church asks of us and are our minimum obligation.

  • Attend Mass on Sundays and all Holy Days of Obligation.
  • Confess your sins at least once a year.
  • Receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist at least once a year at Easter.
  • Keep holy all the holy days of obligation.
  • Fast and abstain on the days appointed.
  • Contribute to the support of the Church.
