Today there is the collection for “Catholic Relief Services”, previously known as “Bishops’ Overseas Appeal”. Please put your donation with the regular collection. The envelopes for the Easter flower donations are on the tables at the church exits, please take one if you want to help. Thank you for your support.

Next week the religious education students will start receiving the sacrament of reconciliation as a preparation for Easter. Please remember that on Saturday during Lent, I will be in the confessional at 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. for private confessions.

Welcome to St. Bernardine and hearty congratulations to Marc and Melissa Michaud who received the sacrament of marriage on March 5, 2005 in preparation for the baptism of their son Joshua. May the Lord Jesus bless the whole family with peace, joy and love as they practice their faith.

On March 26, during the Easter Vigil, the Catholic Church in Detroit will welcome 1,489 new catholic members. 584 are catechumens who will receive the three sacraments of initiation. 553 are candidates from other Christian denominations who will make their profession in the teaching of the Catholic Church, be confirmed and receive the Holy Eucharist. 352 are baptized catholics who will be fully incorporated in the church through confirmation and Holy Eucharist. We have 3 catechumens and 2 candidates at St. Bernardine’s. Let us pray for these catechumens and candidates and draw them nearer to Jesus by our example.

Since the Sunday gospel for these three weekends is long it will be narrated by the priest and two people. The church law is that only the priest or deacon reads the gospel. In these situations when the laity participates in the reading, the priest has to take the part of Christ, since he is the ordained minister.

The assignment board started its tedious work of assigning pastors for the vacant parishes. This year the assignments will be effected by the archdiocesan strategic plan “Together in Faithas some parishes will cluster or merge or even close. Let’s keep our prayer that young men will choose the priesthood as their vocation and that our parish will be blessed by a couple of vocations.

Did you mark Wednesday and Friday to join us for the Lenten talk and the Stations of the Cross?

Blessings to all.

Fr. Sal.
