April 29, 2007 - SALLY CHANEY selected as the new school principal starting July 1, 2007
As one of the top candidates for principal of Our Lady of Refuge, and after a second interview, Sally Chaney was unanimously chosen by the search committee to be the next principal of OLR. She will assume her responsibilities on July 1, 2007. However, Ms. Chaney will be present in the building prior to the end of this school year to meet both faculty and students. She will be collaborating with Mrs. Clemak in planning for next year in regard to curriculum and personnel to ensure a smooth transition in all areas.

Sally has spent the last thirty-three years in administrative capacities, including principal of St. Scholastica School, 20 years as athletic director for St. Scholastica/Benedictine High Schools, and most recently as assistant principal at St. Anne Elementary School in Warren since 2001. For twenty-one years she was a teacher of physical education and music in the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree from Central Michigan University, nineteen semester hours in Special Education/Physically Handicapped and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from Wayne State University.

It became evident throughout our interview with her that Sally is a strong advocate of quality education for all children and firmly believes that Catholic schools not only provide that quality of education in the academic disciplines but also in the formation of faith in students as well. Her administrative talents and fresh ideas will truly enhance the programs and learning environment of Our Lady of Refuge School.

Sally herself admits: “My educational experiences have been challenging and diverse. I am the kind of educator who can contribute in a positive way to Our Lady of Refuge School.”

I look forward to working with Sally and am confident that you will be touched and impressed by her presence in the parish school. Please join me in extending a Warm Welcome to Ms. Sally Chaney as she begins her ministry at Our Lady of Refuge Parish for the 2007-2008 school year.

Changes to the Parish School Website
The Parish Technology Committee, working in close cooperation with the school faculty and staff, Fr. McEnhill and other constituent groups within the parish, is in the process of selecting a new provider for the school's website.  The objective is to establish an all new website with major enhancements and new capabilities that will help facilitate the education process.  The vision is a website that will be responsive to the present and future needs of students, parents and faculty as well as the broader parish community.

While this process moves forward, this page will be used to post and share important parish school information on an interim basis.  Please check back periodically for information that may be of interest.

Questions regarding daily school operations or related topics should be directed, as usual, to the school faculty and staff at (248) 682-3422.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we move forward with these significant changes.
