St. Thomas a'Becket

The Sacrament

The Anointing of the Sick eases the burden and suffering of those in need of physical, psychological or spiritual healing. It consists of the anointing of a sick person's forehead and hands with the oil of the sick which was blessed on Holy Thursday. This Sacrament of Healing helps us recognize the healing power present from God and also celebrates that healing. The grace of this Sacrament is peace: the peace of presence, the peace of death, the peace of knowing in our depths that God is with us. This Sacrament can be requested at any time. Once or twice a year, Anointing of the Sick is celebrated during a Sunday Liturgy.

Preparation for Anointing of the Sick

Celebrated privately by appointment or at special masses during the year. In the case of an emergency Fr. Casey will come to the home or hospital. The family is invited to be present.
