MISSAL: We will begin using the new Missal on the First Sunday of
Advent, November 27th. The new text changes have been incorporated into
the new Heritage missals, which will be used starting November 26-27. We
will also have "pew cards" which outline all of the new text changes.
For more information about the Third Edition of the Roman Missal, see the

MUSIC: A committee of parish musicians attended a Diocesan workshop in May, 2011, during which they learned about the various Mass settings that have been written (or revised) for the new missal. Choices available to Sacred Heart were limited to those being published in the Heritage Missal 2012. The Heritage settings were studied by the committee and two settings were recommended to Fr. Adam for use in our parish. A decision was made to use the Mass of Christ the Savior by Dan Schutte. This Mass setting has also been selected by the Diocese of Davenport for use at Diocesan events. A majority of the parishes in our Diocese will also be using the Mass of Christ the Savior.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has
approved early implementation of the new Gloria so that parishes can learn it
before the beginning of Advent. (We do not sing the Gloria during the four
Sundays of Advent). Bishop Amos has set the weekend of October 29-30 as
the first weekend for the new Gloria. We also have permission to make an
early introduction of the parts of the new Mass that do not have text changes:
Alleluia, Amen, Lamb of God.
