Summary of the September Coffee Talk
"A Generational Chat"
*
Be active participants in your church. That is one of the best things you can do to have your children be involved in their faith when they leave home, as well as when they start their own families.
* Be at the faith formation meetings (Wednesdays 6-7:30 in the Parish Center) so that your voice is heard, and you share your thoughts.
* Be the parent kids want and need. It's okay to say no. They will learn their boundaries and limitations.
* Be flexible with your junior and senior high school student's mass attendance. Absolutely abide by church obligations. However, let them attend the mass time they desire to create independence that will foster their attendance at church when they are on their own.
* Be the scapegoat. Tell your adolescent children it is okay to "blame" their Mom, Dad, or Parents when they aren't comfortable participating in something.
* Be creative. Do activities, start traditions, enjoy each other without having to go somewhere or spend lots of money.
* Be informed about college opportunities. Your children need your help so be involved in seeking scholarships and funding. Help with applications.
* Be a world thinker. Encourage culture involvement that is different then your own, and study abroad opportunities for college age students. Plan to visit your child(ren) overseas if you can.
* Be prayerful and faithful. Specifically put your children and your family in your prayers.
