Deacon Bob McCoy was ordained to the Diaconate by Bishop Gerald O’Keefe, June
13, 1992. He is currently serving as deacon at St. Paul the Apostle Parish and
Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport.
Deacon Bob and his wife, Pat, raised a family of three daughters and one son in Davenport. He is a graduate of University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and served as a hospital pharmacist at Lutheran Hospital, Moline (1961-1968), Director of Pharmacy, Illini Hospital, Silvis, IL (1968-1987) and Chief Pharmacist, Rock Island Arsenal Health Clinic, retiring in 1999. Deacon Bob also served in the Army Reserve for 29 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) (O-5) Medical Service Officer (MSO).
Deacon Bob has held the following positions in the diocese: Diaconate Formation Coordinator, Director of Diaconate, a member of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, Deacon Council Officer, member St. Ambrose University Seminary Board, a facilitator for Protecting God’s Children Program, member Deanery Social Action Committee and instructor, Ministry Formation Program.
Deacon Bob also is a member of Churches United Social Ministry Committee and serves on Christian Experience Weekends and Cursillo Teams. He attended graduate Pastoral Mininstry studies at St. Ambrose University and is a member of the Trinity Hospital, Bettendorf Spiritual Care Advisory Committee. Deacon Bob is also a certified Spiritual Director.
