Fr. Peyton's Pen....
This weekend the Church celebrates
the Solemnity of Christ the King. This is the end of the liturgical year. Next weekend we will begin a new “Year
of Grace” as we celebrate the First Sunday of Advent. The Sunday readings are from Cycle C and the weekday readings
are from Cycle 2. As with any new year this can be a time to make resolutions to change one’s life. Our spiritual
lives are no exception. During this week take some time to reflect upon some changes you need to make in your spiritual
life in order to be more Christ-like and a better Catholic. Maybe you need to pray a little more often, or receive
the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist more frequently. Maybe you need to do something for people in
need or be a better example of Christian living at home. Maybe you need to be less critical, more forgiving or
more patient. Maybe as a youth you need to think more about a vocation to the priesthood or vowed religious life.
Spend a little time this week and pray about what you need to do to make your spiritual life a little richer and
more fulfilling

Concerns about Flu & Illness—
There is grave concern in society about the spread of the H1N1 virus (Swine flu)
and other illnesses at this time of the year. Common sense precautions should
be taken. If you do not feel well, refrain from receiving the Blood of Christ from
the cup at Mass. At the Sign of Peace, if you feel uncomfortable with shaking
hands or you are not feeling well, it is acceptable to nod your head, smile and
say, “Peace be with you”. Finally, if you are sick with the flu, it is not a mortal
sin to miss Mass that weekend. By using good health practices we can help to
prevent the spread of illness. (Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion have
been instructed concerning hygiene for distributing the Eucharist.)

Are You A Registered Member?
Please do not assume you are a registered member of St. Francis de Sales Parish
just because you attend Mass here. If you have not come into the rectory office to
fill out a registration form and are not receiving envelopes, we have no record of
you. Newly married couples who choose to remain at St. Francis de Sales must
also register as a new family. Without a record, we would be unable to help you
when you wish to get married, have a child baptized, are ill, or in the hospital,
or are asked to act as a sponsor or to be a Godparent. To be a Godparent or
Confirmation sponsor you must have a certificate from us stating that you are a
practicing Catholic, which we would not be able to issue without having a record
of your membership. Please call the rectory office at 440-884-2319 with any
questions or for further information.
