The Sacrament of Baptism
Welcoming children into the family of God is a great joy for our Christian community. To prepare parents for this event, we have a
Baptism Program. Parents can attend this evening of preparation on the last Tuesday of any month. The Sacrament of Baptism is
celebrated on the First Sunday of every month following the 10:00 a.m. Mass. Please call the rectory
office to register for the Baptism Program and for Baptism and mandatory
program.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation
Forgiveness of sin and the experience of God's unconditional love for
all his people is what the Sacrament of Reconciliation offers to all people of faith. Confession are Saturdays from 4:30 to 4:45 p.m.. Special days for
Reconciliation are held twice a year during Advent and Lent.
The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist
As the source and summit of our Christian life, the
Holy Eucharist unites us with both God’s saving sanctification in the
world and to the worship we offer to God through Christ in the Holy
Spirit. Reception of Holy Eucharist is a major part of our Christian
Initiation. Having been accepted into Christ’s royal priesthood by
baptism and having conformed ourselves more deeply in Confirmation, the
faithful come to the table of Christ to unite themselves completely with
Him. The Holy Eucharist is the center of our Catholic Faith.
All Catholic people are invited to receive the Holy
Eucharist at the celebration of Mass on Saturdays at 5:00, Sundays at
8:00 and 10:00, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00. We also have
a Eucharist Service on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays at 8:00.
The Sacrament of Confirmation
As the third sacrament of initiation into the Church,
Confirmation is the sacrament that completes Baptism and prepares us for
a life of service to our community. Please pray for our confirmandi
as they prepare for this important step in the Faith lives of our
children.
The Sacrament of Marriage
Christ raised the union of man and woman to the level
of sacrament when, at the Wedding Feast at Cana, he performed his first
miracle. The church sees in this miracle confirmation of the goodness of
marriage. Marriage is a true sign of Christ’s presence in the world.
Parishioners of St. John who wish to be married here are requested to
make an appointment with the Pastor six months prior to the wedding. We
strongly recommend that you reserve the church before reserving a
reception hall. It is expected that bridal couples are regularly
attending mass.
The Sacrament of Holy Orders
The Catholic Church enjoys the privilege of an
ordained Priesthood. Called by God to a life of service, priests, by
virtue of the sacrament of Holy Orders, act in the person of Christ.
They have the task of representing Christ - as Head of the Church - but
also of acting in the name of the Church when presenting to God the
prayers of the Church and offering the Sacrifice of the Mass.
Have you ever thought God might be calling you to the
priesthood? What is life as a priest really like? Might
priesthood be an exiting and fulfilling way to live life? If you
would like to explore the possibility of priesthood further, Mundelein Seminary offers weekend retreats to help in
your discernment process. This retreat experience is designed to
help men discover if priesthood is a viable life option. For more information,
there is a link to the Archdiocesan Vocations Website on our "Catholic
Links" page. We encourage you to contact Father Jack
if you have questions or would like to discuss vocations.
Prayer for Vocations: Gracious God, You
show your favor to us through the many gifts you give us. You sent
Jesus, Your beloved Son, as your servant of justice in our world.
Open our mind and hearts to hear your call to us today. Guide
women and men to use their gifts to serve the Church and continue the
mission of Jesus. We offer this prayer through Christ and the Holy
Spirit, now and forever. Amen
The Sacrament of the Sick
"Is there anyone sick among you? He
should ask for the elders of the church. They in turn are to pray over
him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. This prayer, uttered
in faith will reclaim the one who is ill, and the Lord will restore him
to health. If he has committed any sins, forgiveness will be his."
James 5:14-16
Through anointing with blessed oil and the prayers of
the priest, a person who is ill is commended to Christ. The sick person's
suffering is joined to the suffering of Christ crucified. Christ is
beseeched to raise them up and heal them.
Hospital Visitation: It is essential that you or your family notify us as soon
as possible. Hospitals no longer notify parishes even though patients are often questioned by
hospital staff about their religion and parish to which they belong, thus giving the impression churches are notified when we are not.
Home Visitation: In an emergency call any time.
