St. John Women's Club

Founded more than seventy years ago and the oldest parish organization at St. John, this dedicated group of ladies has quietly gone about the work of serving the whole parish community.  Virtually every ministry in our parish was first begun by the Women's Club.

The objectives of the St. John Women's Club are…  to foster spiritual devotion among its members by receiving Holy Communion in a body once a month; to provide for the needs of the parish; to promote a spirit of friendliness among the members of the parish; and, to assist the pastor when called on to do so.

Through their bake sales, white elephant sales, raffles, etc. - having actively supported the building fund - they have contributed a considerable portion of the money for such things as the new carpeting, the statue of Christ blessing the children and the new chairs for the chapel and the choir.  Each year their collective efforts raise thousands of dollars for the parish.  Because they work so hard and so tirelessly, they have taken a bit of the financial burden off of the whole parish community.

The St. John Women's Club has sponsored many parish activities…  the Arts and Crafts Fair, Mother - Daughter Banquet, Christmas Bazaar, Hospitality Sunday, bake sales, raffles.  And, above all else, their many other charitable good works and prayers have benefited us spiritually.

One of the most satisfying expressions of life is the feeling of being needed.  The message to you - our parish women - is…

"We need you!  We cannot do without you!"

Membership in your parish's Women's Club offers an opportunity to demonstrate a Christian commitment to the church and community, strengthens us spiritually and helps us to broaden our circle of friends.  The ladies meet once a month on Monday evening following the first Sunday of the month, September through May.  All adult women of the parish who are 18 years and older are eligible for membership.

St. John Social Club

This is a fun organization for all adult members of the Parish.  Energetic people come together to add a new dimension to Parish life.  The family that already prays together is also invited to play together.

Club members strive to provide social activities for our parishioners.  They plan and implement a variety of programs and social events to reach out and bring us all together as parishioners so that we can get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere.  The goal of the Social Club is to foster a sense of church community, to  benefit individual members and the St. John community as a whole.

The Social Club maintains the Parish Bulletin Board in the church vestibule,  plans and sponsors the St. John Parish Picnic, the Fall Fling and Mardi Gras.  Honoring parents of the Parish, they have gifted Mothers and Fathers on their special day.

St. John is proud that the love of this community for one another is being evidenced in their desire to spend time together, whether it be time in work, time in study, time in prayer or time in play.

St. John Friendly Seniors

While not officially a parish organization, the St. John Friendly Seniors serves a need for the members of the parish.  A social club for people over 50, the group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month from 11:00 to 3:00. They have a business meeting, eat their brown bag lunch, have dessert and coffee and play cards and bingo. They also plan trips for Seniors to places of interest.  For information on this club, which uses the facilities of St. John, call the parish office.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus was founded on four principles - charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.  St. John's Mary, Queen of Knights Council #10142 has followed these principles through the years since founded here in 1990.  Our Father Jack is a Brother Knight.

The Knights have volunteered to usher at masses, stood on street corners in all kinds of weather to collect contributions for the mentally disabled with their Tootsie Roll drive.  They have worked at the Village 4th of July Picnic, grilling hamburgers in the sun, selling drinks in the cold.  They also help out with our annual parish picnic festivities and - for more than twelve years - host the summer Monthly Hospitality Sunday.

The Knights meet monthly in the church social hall.  We encourage all fellow Catholics to join their council and be a part of this worthy organization.
