Year of the Eucharist
October 2004 - October 2005

THE  YEAR  OF  THE  EUCHARIST  BEGINS!

The official opening of the "Year of the Eucharist" began with the opening of the International Eucharistic Congress at Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.  The theme for this congress was "The Eucharist, Light and Life of the New Millennium."  Pope John Paul announced during the Angelus in Rome that he has addressed an apostolic letter to the whole Church that begins with these words, "Mane nobiscum, Domine - Stay with us, Lord" (Luke 24:29)  May this invocation resound in every Christian community:  that in recognizing the resurrected Christ "in the breaking of the bread" the faithful will witness to him with concrete charity.

ALL  ARE  INVITED

To help all of our people grow closer to the Lord in this Year of the Eucharist, we will have two Holy Hours of Eucharistic Adoration each week: Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 and Thursday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00.  You do not have to stay the whole hour, come for as long as you like. Spending quiet time with the Lord in front of the Holy Eucharist is a peace-giving experience.  Please come to pray.

Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament

O sacred banquet,
in which Christ is received,
the memory of his Passion is renewed,
the mind is filled with grace,
and a pledge of future glory is given to us.

Tantum Ergo

Down in adoration falling,
Lo! the sacred Host we hail;
Lo! o'er ancient forms departing,
Newer rites of grace prevail;
Faith for all defects supplying,
Where the feeble senses fail.
To the everlasting Father,
And the Son who reigns on high,
With the Holy Spirit proceeding
Forth from each eternally,
Be salvation, honor, blessing,
Might and endless majesty. Amen.

V. You have given them bread from heaven,
R. Having all delight within it.

Let us pray. O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament left us a memorial of your Passion: grant, we implore you, that we may so venerate the sacred mysteries of your Body and Blood, as always to be conscious of the fruit of your Redemption. You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

Tantum ergo Sacraméntum,
Venerémur cérnui:
Et antiquum documéntum
Novo cedat rítui;
Praestet fides suppleméntum
Sénsuum deféctui.
Genitóri, Genitóque,
Laus et jubilátio,
Salus, honor, virtus quoque,
Sit et benedictio:
Procedénti ab utróque
Compar sit laudátio
Amen.

V. Panem de coelo praestitísti eis.
R. Omne delectamentum in se habentem.

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds conceal me.
Do not permit me to be parted from you.
From the evil foe protect me.
At the hour of my death call me.
And bid me come to you,
to praise you with all your saints
for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer

Here, O good and gentle Jesus, I kneel before you and with all the fervor of my soul I pray that you engrave within my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope and love, true repentance for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment.

While I see and I ponder your five wounds with great affection and sorrow in my soul, I have before my eyes those words of yours that David prophesied about you: "They have pierced my hands and feet. I can count all my bones." (Ps 22,17)
Amen.
