ROOF REPAIRS - PHASE II
REPAIRS AND NEW
SHINGLES
TO THE NORTH PART
OF THE CHURCH
After
repairs to the bell tower were completed in 2008, members of the
Comité des ami.e.s de la prière (Friends of
Prayer)
concentrated efforts on fund raising. In the spring of 2009, with a sum
in excess of $10,000 collected through fund raising events and
donations, the committee qualified for a $10,000 matching grant from
Culture, Heritage, Tourism, & Sport - Community Places Program.
With
the total of these funds, the next phase of repairs to the roof could
be tackled; the roof of the sacristy and the sanctuary.
The
following photos will walk you through the various steps of the PHASE
II repairs as the contractor proceeded to:
- Remove
the old shingles
- Repair
the decking where needed
- Apply
heavy felt paper to the decking
- Apply
ice-shield to the roof deck edges and valleys
- Applied Canada,
Blue Label # 1 cedar shingles to the entire area
Once
the roof was re-shingled, the fascia boards and soffits were repaired
and then clad with pre-painted metal after which eave troughs and down
pipes were installed.
The project lasted slightly more than 5 weeks from October 19 to
November 26, 2009.
We are grateful to the Lord for granting us nice weather allowing the
project to progress without snags.

The
dark areas showing on the older roof are areas where the original
shingles were damaged.
As part of PHASE II, roof repairs, the damaged areas were repaired to
assure the integrity of the roof until our next phase of repairs. |
