OLYMPIC FLAME IN RICHER

THE OLYMPIC TORCH RUN PASSED THROUGH RICHER, MB

IN FRONT OUR OUR HERITAGE CHURCH,

ON THE HISTORIC DAWSON TRAIL

	After his 300 meter run at the east end of the town of Richer, on the historic Dawson Road, Andrew Nixon transfers the olympic flame to Maddy Arkle who in turn will carry it to Richer School. Andrew is from Thunder Bay, Ontario where he lives with his wife and two children. He was the link in handing the flame over from one province to the other; from Ontario to Manitoba as part of the long chain of laps laying out the path of the olympic flame across Canada.                        Thank you Andrew!
Maddy Arkle, president of the  Saint Boniface Diocesan High School Student Government, started the Torch Relay in Richer. Maddy was cheered on by all the students of her school who lined the historic Dawson Trail while waving olympic banners. She carried the olympic torch from Forsythe Road on the legendary Dawson Road, all the way to Richer School where the students welcomed her with great enthusiasm, singing our National Anthem. On the photo, we see Maddy bearing the torch in front of our historic Enfant-Jésus Chruch, a municipal heritage site. Bravo Maddy!	Laura Forrest, employed with Winnipeg Child and Family, ran the second lap of the Torch Relay in Richer, accompanied by the students from Richer School. After taking the olympic flame from Maddy in front of the School, she ran west along Dawson Road and then north on PR 302 100 metres from the Transcanada Highway. After her run, Laura went to the Country Corner Restaurant where she met with many villagers and visitors sharing her experience as a member of the Olympic Torch Run. Laura joyfully posed for pictures with many of the persons present. On the photo, we see Laura south of #1 Hwy east. Bravo Laura!
