150th Anniversary

In August 2007, Sacred Heart Church will be celebrating its’ 150th Anniversary.  With the month of August falling in the middle of the summer holiday period, we your committee, have chosen Sunday, October 28th, 2007, as our Parish Dedication and celebration date.  Please mark this date on a calendar, as we will be holding a celebratory Mass followed by a dinner, to be held at the Paris Fairgrounds.  Final details will be available in 2007.

Working up to our celebration, we as your committee have met and discussed in detail some repairs and changes that are necessary to make this dedication a big success.  We have viewed inside and outside the Church and have set ourselves up with some major tasks of “cleanup and renovations.”  With everybody’s help, we will be successful, and our 150th Anniversary celebration will open the door for many continuing years of Sacred Heart Parish life.

With Sacred Heart Church being the first Catholic Church built in Brant County, we take pride in our history, and are compiling facts, with the hope of having it printed and a copy given to all parishioners.  If you have any old pictures of the Church, parishioners, or special events that have taken place over the years, and you are willing to share them, please forward them on to any member of the committee or to Father Bennett.  We will do our best to return them to you, so please put your name on all photos.

Come January 2006, we would like to set up sub committees with any volunteer parishioners who are willing to help with any of our tasks.  If you have a special talent, (and you know who you are), or are willing to roll up your sleeves and help in any way, we would ask you to attend a special meeting (date to be set in January), and join one of our teams.  We have a lot to accomplish, and as the old saying goes, “many hands make for light work.”  As our Parish continues to grow, this is a great time to meet and spend some good quality time with new members of our parish.  We want to stress, these teams are meant to have fun.

The following is a list of sub committees to date:

·        Tree Removal – the large trees on the Church property need to be removed due to safety concerns.  There are two smaller trees blocking the new windows that need to be removed, and also a large tree behind the rectory.

·        Tennis Court – very overgrown with trees and bushes.  This needs to be gutted out to make way for our new parking lot.

·        Front Entrance – remove all old concrete and replace with new concrete pad and steps

·        Lighting – new light installed over both front doors

·        Green Space – the spare lot beside the Church – convert into garden with benches and gazebo- (a place for coffee after mass or wedding pictures)

·        Gardens – plant shrubs and flowers around the Church property

·        Photo Committee – for Church photo book

As a committee, we are looking forward to working with all of you to make this celebration and dedication meaningful to all past, present, and future Parish families.

See you in January
