The Social and Outreach programs of Christ the King Parish

Ministry of Care
The ministers of care are members of Christ the King reaching out to the elderly at Eden Park Nurshing Home by assisting them to attend weekly Mass on Mondays at 11:00 AM. These volunteers bring residents to Mass and see to it that they are returned to their rooms. Perhaps their greatest gift to the residents is the personal touch of calling them by name and making them feel less isolated from the Christian community. Some ministers of care bring Holy Communion to those sick and shut-in their homes.

Sodality
The Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an organization of women in the parish who have joined together for the deepening of their own spiritual life and to serve the needs of others. with Mary as model and guide the Sodalists engage in prayer and charitable work. Some activities include Christmas poinsettias to parishioners in nursing homes and shut-ins, a Christmas party at Eden Park Nursing Home, knitted and crocheted items of clothing for needy newborns at the hospital, making baptismal robes and laundering of altar linens. The Sodality sponsors an annual spaghetti dinner and bake sales to raise money for their charitable works and the needs of the sanctuary.

Community Cupboard
Christ the King parish also supports the Rutland area food bank. One Sunday each month, parishoners are asked to bring canned goods with them to Mass for the shelter. And each January, we have our own "Souper Bowl Sunday," when parishoners make a special donation to the shelter.
