Recreation and Fellowship at Christ the King Parish

"Get-Togethers"

Picnic
Bring the family - even your "extended" family! In conjunction with Christ the King School, all parishoners are invited to our annual Family Picnic, held on the school grounds (or in the gym).

Coffee and Doughnuts
Just for the enjoyment of getting together. In Engle Hall, after Sunday Mass, every "once-in-a-while."

Annual Spaghetti Dinner
A very low-key fund raiser sponsored by the Sodality, its other purpose is to have people "mingle and mix."

Christmas Concert
The University of Vermont Chorale Union presents a Christmas recital sung in the manner of Early Music. Every year the tickets for this evening performance and dinner go quickly!

Ministerial Life

Altar Servers
Being an altar server provides the opportunity for girls and boys to more actively participate in the Eucharistic celebration. Girls and boys serve at weekend Masses, special liturgies and funerals. They must be in fourth grade or older. Training is provided.

Eucharistic Ministers
The eucharistic ministers are specially trained and mandates to distribute Holy Communion to their fellow parishoners. The eucharistic ministers are expected to have a firm faith and profound reverence for the Eucharist which they administer. Their special service to the community is also a means of their own ongoing spiritual growth. Some eucharistic ministers are designated to bring the Eucharist to those unable to attend liturgies at Church.

Christ the King Choirs
Christ the King parish is proud to have two choirs which regularily provide music for parish liturgies.

The Folk Group plays at the 9:30 AM Sunday Mass. It is comprised of adults and children, playing a contemporary style of liturgical music with guitars and other instruments. Practice for the Folk Group is held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the music room off Engle Hall.

The traditional choir favors a more standard repertoire, as well as using organ and occasional strings and brass instrumentation. The choir sings at the Sunday 11:00 AM Mass, and at special liturgies such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Midnight Mass and the Holy Week Services. A Christmas concert prior to the midnight Mass is held annually. Practice for this choir is conducted Monday evenings at 7:00 PM and 10:30 AM on Sundays.

Lectors
Lectors proclaim the scripture lessons at liturigical services. They promote the understanding and appreciation of the Word of the Lord by their own love and effective proclamation of the scriptures to the community. Lectors are only assigned after formal training.

Ushers
The ushers are an integral part of the liturgy. Their function is to assure that proper preparations have been made prior to the beginning of the liturgy. They are responsible for seating the assembly, they assist in the collection of monetary offerings and offer whatever assistance they can to worshipers.

Marriage Preparation
This group of married couples is designated to give engaged couples information and assistance in planning for their marriage as well as their wedding day. Once the engaged couples have met with a priest and set their wedding date, they enroll in the parish Pre-Cana session which is held from 9:30-6:00 PM on a designated Saturday. The day closes with a special rite for engaged couples during the 5:15 PM liturgy.

Ministry of Care
The ministers of care are members of Christ the King reaching out to the elderly at Eden Park Nurshing Home by assisting them to attend weekly Mass on Mondays at 11:00 AM. These volunteers bring residents to Mass and see to it that they are returned to their rooms. Perhaps their greatest gift to the residents is the personal touch of calling them by name and making them feel less isolated from the Christian community. Some ministers of care bring Holy Communion to those sick and shut-in their homes.
