Sacramental Policies
& Guidelines
The following policies and guidelines help clarify roles for parishioners
to better prepare for sacramental obligations for family members.
Baptism
Parents of children under 5 years of age to be baptized catholics
and practicing members of San Martin de Porres community. They shall
call the parish office to register for the Baptism and a required
Preparation Program, preferably prior to the birth of the child.
Godparents should be at least 16 years of age and a confirmed, practicing
Catholic. Please contact Coordinator of Adult Faith Formation for
additional information.
First Communion
Children preparing for these sacraments must have been enrolled
in an diocesan religious program or Catholic school one year prior
to the celebration of the sacrament and must be currently attending
with regularity.Parents must attend Orientation and Sacramental
Preparation sessions for both sacraments. Please contact, Coordinator
of Children’s Faith Formation, for additional information
and registration.
Confirmation
Must have received the sacraments of Baptism, and First Communion.
Candidates must be in the 10th through 12th grade and have been
enrolled in a Parish Youth Ministry Program or Catholic school two
years prior to the celebration of Confirmation. (Teens who have
not yet received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion
should contact Brother Hoss as soon as possible.) Required activities
include 1 day sessions during the week, responsible for attending
a retreat, and a requirement of 50 hours of volunteer service at
San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. All candidates and sponsor
information must be filed in the Religious Education Office no later
than the week of January 15th if you have
any questions please contact, Coordinator of Youth Ministry, for
additional information and registration.
Matrimony
Preperation for Marriage is very important process. All couples
desiring to marry at San Martin de Porres must comply with the common
requirements attributed toward marrying at any parish.

Couples must be the ones
contacting SMDP office at least six
months prior to the selected date. No date is official till the
Priest or Deacon has cleared all of the requirements.
- Official copies of required documents and
proper certificates must be turned into the office as soon as possible.
- Priest must have contact with the couple
for the initial visit. After that, the couple is delegated to a
Deacon for the preperation process. If need be the couple may be
referred back to the Priest for further consultation.
RCIA
Process is approximately a nine month (9) process culminating with
reception of Sacraments for Catechumens at the Easter Vigil. First
Communion Candidates will recieve their Sacraments in May. Confirmation
Candidates will recieve their Sacraments through a coordinated effort
at a date designated by the Diocese of Brownsville. (Fr. Carlos
