"The Lord God
lives, before whom I stand"
(Elijah, in I Kings 17:1)
Welcome to our website. We are a growing Secular Discalced
Carmelite community (O.C.D.S.) in the Rio
Grande Valley of Texas, in the Brownsville Diocese, and within the
Oklahoma (Central) Province of the O.C.D. Fathers.
We meet one Sunday a month for 3 hours, alternating between a church in McAllen
and a church in Harlingen. Members come
from various towns in the Rio Grande Valley. Except for Fr. George
Gonzalez, our Spiritual Assistant and a Secular Discalced Carmelite himself, we
are all Catholic laypeople, many married and with families. Each has been
called to our group to seek a transforming union with God by living a life of
prayer; Christian love, sacrifice, and holiness; and service to our families,
our Carmelite community, our church, and the larger community.
We were founded in 1997 by four members, and received
canonical status in 2007. We now have thirty-six members, from newcomers
and aspirants to definitively professed.
