Spirituality

Spiritual Formation for adults is available through weekly and seasonal activities.

St. Mary of the Angels has the good fortune to have as a resource, Jesuits who volunteer to work closely with teams of parishioners to plan and implement these activities.

The activities include:

Formacion Cristiana is a group of Spanish speaking parishioners who gather weekly to pray and to learn from one another and to assist members of the parish and the community in times of grief through prayer and support.

Equipo Latino Ignaciano (ELI) is a group of Hispanic parishioners who seek to live the Ignatian ideals of finding God in everything and everyone and following St. Ignatius’ guide for discernment and recognizing the presence of Christ in our midst as we address the needs of the world with an open heart.

Adult Retreats (bilingual in English and Spanish) planned and implemented by parishioners are held two weekends a year at the Bellarmine House in Cohasset.  Through prayer, discussion and activities we delve into a theme that is suggested by the liturgical season.  Participation in a retreat is a good way to grow spiritually while experiencing the support and friendship of other parishioners.

Family retreats.  Each summer the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus offers a week-long retreat to St. Mary of the Angels families at their facility in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Two and three generational families reflecting the ethnic diversity of St. Marys meet with trained facilitators, both by age groups and as family groups to explore their faith and its role in their lives.  Forty to fifty St. Marys members attend each year and enjoy a wonderful week of swimming, games, etc as well as faith formation.

Evenings of Reflection (bilingual) based on the gospel are held weekly during Advent and Lent.

In Spiritual Direction a parishioner has the opportunity to meet individually with a trained spiritual director.

Bible Study courses in English and Spanish are held annually.
