Religious Education

Instructing and supporting our children and youth in their relationship to Jesus and his teachings is one of our highest priorities. We support families as the first teachers of their children and welcome their involvement as their children participate in liturgies and religious education classes.

Religious education classes for grades K-8 meet Sundays at 10:00 AM, September through June in the parish house.

Parents are invited to register their children on the first two Sundays after Labor Day.

Annual fees are: $25 for one child, $40 for two, $50 for three or more. Fees pay for

o       Take-home weekly periodicals that focus on the Sunday readings which help children get to know Jesus, his church and his teachings

o       A classroom textbook, the curriculum of which is grade-level specific

o       Paper, crayons, etc. to be used particularly for younger students.

Both parents and children, from pre-school through grade 8 are instructed in the Archdiocesan Program of Child Safety.

sacramental preparation
Preparation for Baptism and Holy Matrimony is arranged through consultation with the pastor.

Preparation for First Communion and First Penance generally takes two years and is offered in conjunction with the weekly religious education program.

Preparation for Confirmation takes two years usually. It prepares students for more fully participating in the Christian life of our Parish Community. The young adults meet in very small groups at different times twice a month. They explore many avenues to Catholicism and current topics of interest to them as Christians. They join with the St Mary Peace Delegates (the parish youth group) to participate in social justice and service oriented projects, as well as in liturgical events.
