GOSPEL GIVING FOR LENT

Cycle C - The Year of Luke

LENT 2010
The Lenten Season 2010 (US Conference of Catholic Bishops)
The traditional foundation for Lenten practice rests on three supports:

PRAYER - FASTING - ALMSGIVING.

Fasting – Fasting is not just about fasting from food, rather it is denying ourselves of anything that keeps us from a deeper relationship with God. For some it may be food, for others it may be alcohol, cigarettes, television, computer use, video games, anger, or gossip.

Prayer – Once we have freed ourselves from that which keeps us away from God, prayer allows us to be open to what God desires for us and being able to express to God the deepest desires of our heart.

Almsgiving or Service – Service is our response to God’s unconditional love for us. It is our expression of love of God by reaching out to those in need.

To assist families in need, and to help fulfill the third of these supports, we participate each year in
