GOSPEL GIVING FOR LENT

Cycle A - The Year of Matthew

LENT 2008

The traditional foundation for Lenten practice rests on three supports:

PRAYER - FASTING - ALMSGIVING.

To assist families in need, and to help fulfill the third of these supports, we participate each year in

Service Opportunities

"The fruit of silence is prayer,
the fruit of prayer is faith,
the fruit of faith is love,
the fruit of love is service,
the fruit of service is peace."
~ Mother Theresa

1st Sunday of Lent - February 9/10  - Passover to Resurrection through the eyes of women who loved Jesus. Please donate used cell phones for Secure the Call Foundation. The phones will be cleared of all data and given to shelters, senior centers, etc.

2nd Sunday of Lent - February 16/17  - Annual Drive for the Mission of Deeds. Items needed -- sheets, blankets, and comforters, bed pillows, towels, pots and pans, silverware, and lamps.  All items must be in good, clean and useable condition.  Volunteers are needed to help load donations onto the truck.

3rd Sunday of Lent - February 23/24 - We will be collecting canned fruits and vegetables for the Reading Food Pantry. We will need volunteers to transport the canned goods to the Food Pantry.

4th  Sunday of Lent - March 1/2 - We will be collecting items for the Help Our Troops (H.O.T.) which will be sent to our troops overseas. A listing of items needed can be found HERE.

5th Sunday of Lent - March 8/9 - During this week of Lent we will begin the sock drive to benefit the Boston Coalition for the Homeless. Please bring new white socks for this worthy mission.  The collection will run through Holy Week.  We will also be looking for a few people to help store the socks and transport them into Boston.

Watch the bulletin each week for more information on each of these Lenten Service and Giving opportunities.
