Pilgrimage 2000

Memories from Rome

Our four Pilgrims leaving St Barbara's

On August 14, 2000, Brian Orpen, Joe and Rick Roszak and Andrew Hamilton met in the Parking Lot with their chaperones, Steve Hamilton, Mike and Donna Bishop and Len Roszak.

Mass at St. John's with Cardinal Law

Cardinal Law said mass at St. John Lateran Basilica for the whole Boston group. In the procession, among the new priests, we see Fr Dowdy, a former member of St. Barbara's choir.

St Peter's Square

Our Pilgrims even took pictures of other groups when they visited St. Peters Square in the Vatican.

The Church of St. Francis in Assissi

On August 18, 2000, Our group made a side trip to Assissi. Cardinal Law said mass for the Boston group in the Church of St. Francis, the marvelous church named for the town's patron saint. As you can see, it is a popular tourist stop.

Our four Pilgrims lunching at Assissi

On August 18, 2000, Andrew, Joe, Brian and Rick enjoy their lunch in Assissi. Cardinal Law picked up the lunch tab for all 850 members of the Boston group who made the side trip. (No wonder they enjoyed it!)

Waiting for the Pope

Donna is proudly showing off the shelter she and Mike built with their own hands (and some borrowed materials). They are sharing with another group in the Boston delegation. The shelter is not for rain, but for some protection from the August Italian sun and its 40+ degree heat. (That's 104+ degrees Farenheit.)

Here comes the Pope...

You can just make out the Pope's helicopter over the sea of tents, as he comes to celebrate mass with over a million pilgrims.
