BULLETIN BITS

Today’s readings call us to active discipleship. It is not enough to know the commandments; we must actively obey them. It is not enough to hear the words of Jesus; we must act on them. Good stewards demonstrate their gratitude for the gift of faith by putting it into action.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

I suppose one could sum up today’s gospel message with the phrase: “Talk is cheap, what is needed is action.” Jesus advises us to put our faith into action, if not we build on sand. It is important to profess love with our tongue and our heart. It is important to profess our faith with a heart that truly believes. But as James says, faith without works is dead. Paul says love is eternal and it is the sum and substance of Christian living. To profess to someone, “I love you,” and never act on it is a lie. Our celebration of the liturgy should motivate us to “wash the feet” of one another, or to put it another way, to take an active interest and do what we can to help. In serving others we serve Jesus.

Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
