BULLETIN BITS

The Gospel today is sometimes called “the Gospel in miniature” because it so concisely sums up the Gospel message. In even more condensed form, “God loved…God Gave…” is the paradigm for stewardship-we give because we love.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

You and I have been born into a human family and what is a family but a relationship of persons. One of the most important truths that Jesus taught his followers is that God is also a relationship of persons which we call the Trinity. God, the Father, has a Son and they are one in a relationship with another person the Holy Spirit. One person is not the other and they are distinct persons with distinct personalities. It is best to understand the Trinity not just with the intellect but with the heart as well. Scripture helps us because it relates to us what they are by what they do. God the Father creates us, Jesus as God as brother redeems us, the Spirit unites, sanctifies and anoints us. Through Father, Son and Holy Spirit we are adopted into this family as God’s children. We are predestined for eternal life.

Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

SUNDAY PARISH OFFERTORY – Your Stewardship

Weekly Budget Needs: $8,687.25
05/11/2008 Offering: $7,945.00
Difference for the Week: $   742.25

Another question from the Parish Pastoral Council:
QUESTION:
WHY IS MASS IN THE DOWNSTAIRS CHURCH AT THE 9:00 A.M. WEEKDAY MASS?
ANSWER:
Unfortunately, the reason is financial, because of a decrease in Mass attendance in most of the parishes throughout the Archdiocese. We have been spending a great deal of money to heat the upper church in the winter months and to air condition it during the summer months. As you know, the price of fuel and electricity has skyrocketed. By making this move we have also saved on the cost of the light bulbs to illuminate the upper church, which needed to be replace quite frequently. It takes several hours to heat or cool the upper church, because the ceilings are so high and the stained glass windows are not sealed to keep the cold air or the heat from entering the building. The move to have Mass in the lower church has been a big saving on the parish budget, which as you know, has been several thousand dollars below what is needed every week. I thank you for your cooperation in this regard. I know it is not as esthetically beautiful or as comfortable as upstairs, but the sacrifice is helping us meet our budget needs.
QUESTION:
CAN ONLY MEN BE DEACONS?
ANSWER:
Yes, at the present time men are ordained to the permanent deaconate as Deacon Jim, and to the transitional deaconate, which means the man is going to be ordained a priest in the future.

“WE REMEMBER” LITURGY

especially for families that have lost a child through miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, in early childhood, or a child of any age, will be held at Immaculate Conception Parish chapel in Malden/Medford on Friday, May 23rd at 7:15 p.m. A collation will follow. Parents, grandparents and siblings are encouraged to participate. Immaculate Conception Parish is located at 600 Pleasant Street, (Rte 60) at the corner of Fellsway East & Pleasant.

THE SECOND COLLECTION

CARDINAL O’MALLEY has requested that all parishes hold a second collection the weekend of May 24/25th to assist with the Catholic Relief Services emergency response to the people of Myanmar following last week’s cyclone and flooding. Current estimates of the devastation caused by the storm are 60,000 dead and 1 million homeless. Significant funds are needed to ensure that critical life-saving assistance reaches the most vulnerable people quickly.

WHAT DOES LOVE MEAN TO CHILDREN??

  • When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different; You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.
  • Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.
  • Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.
