The disciples on the road to Emmaus walked and talked with Jesus all day long, but it was not until they offered Him hospitality and He blessed and broke the bread that they recognized Him. Simple acts of loving kindness still reveal the presence of God in our midst.

Many thanks to those parishioners who have participated in this year’s Catholic Appeal. God calls us to share what we have to help others. If you have not yet made your gift, please do so this weekend. Thank you.

USHERS

We are always in need of Ushers at our weekend Masses. If you would like to help, please speak with one of the current ushers or call the rectory.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

The men in today’s Gospel were depressed, sad and disappointed. Jesus was crucified. All their hopes and dreams were dashed. Now what? The stranger on the road is unaware of the events. He asks them what they were discussing on the road. In the house they recognize Jesus in the breaking of the bread. The “we had hoped He was the one,” turned into assurance and conviction. On the road, on our individual journey, we sometimes get discouraged. “Where is Jesus? How come He allows this? Why doesn’t He answer? Does He not care?” Keep walking and talking to Him. Come to receive Him in the bread He left with us, and in time you will see clearly, recognize His presence in your life, and be filled with the joy of knowing He has not left you alone, but is sharing your life with you. He has one goal. To take you home, that where He is you also may be.

Another question from the Parish Pastoral Council:
QUESTION:
COULD YOU EXPLAIN ABOUT THE ARK OF THE COVENANT? ETHIOPIA CLAIMS TO HAVE IT. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
ANSWER:
First, the Ark of the Covenant from the book of Exodus, was built by the Israelites under Moses’ direction. It was a tabernacle, carried by the priests during their sojourn in the desert wilderness. Within it were the slabs of stone with the Ten Commandments written on them; the blossoming staff of Aaron, Moses’ brother the high priest; and some of the manna the Israelites ate on their journey. Scholars think manna was sap from the desert plants blooming in the desert, which when dried was like sweet cakes. This was their “bread” which they ate for forty years. Graham Hancock, authored a book on the Ark and it is his contention that the Ark is in Ethiopia in a church which the Coptic priest guards with his life. No one but he has ever seen it. The other theory is that it is buried somewhere in the Holy Land, perhaps under the temple mount. The Queen of Sheba (Ethiopia) visited Solomon and had a son by him, named Menelek. During one of the persecutions of the Jews, many Jews escaped to Ethiopia and the priests brought the Ark there, according to Graham Hancock and others. Still other scholars say it is still hidden somewhere in Israel. No one is sure. To this day there is a large contingent of Ethiopians who are Jews.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

YOUR GENEROSITY MAKES A DIFFERENCE

From the Food Pantry Director at Woburn Social Concern:
“The outstanding support of your parish is sincerely appreciated!”
At this time of the year, shelves get very low and they rely on community support to help meet the challenge of providing food for our “neighbors in need”. Please consider some of the following items which are most in need at this time of the year when you bring your next donations: Baked Beans – Canned Lunch (Spaghettios, etc) – Canned Meat (Stew, Spam, Chili, etc) – Cereals – Jelly –Juices – Peanut Butter – Powdered Milk – Rice/ Rice Mixtures – Soups – Spaghetti – Spaghetti Sauce – Tuna.

YOU KNOW YOU’RE GETTING OLD…

  • When you stoop to tie your shoes and wonder what else you can do while you’re down there!
  • When you get the same thrill from a rocking chair as you once got from a roller coaster!
  • When you know all the answers, but nobody bothers to ask you the questions!!
