HOSPICE OF THE NORTH SHORE

During the holidays, our heart and minds focus on family, friends and loved ones near and far. For those who have lost a loved one, Hospice of North Shore illuminates a Tree of Lights in Danvers Square, at Swampscott Town Hall and at 160 Main St near the Gloucester Cooperative Bank. We inscribe the honoree’s name on the Tree of Lights Honor Roll Book for viewing at a special reception following the ceremony. Call 978-223-9787 for questions. Trees remain illuminated throughout the holiday season.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Who would imagine a king crucified, dying between two thieves, with some who loved him, and others who hated him, blasphemed him and cursed him? One thief repents and asks Jesus to take him to His kingdom. The other, who does not believe, wants the Messiah to “save” him , that is, take him down from the cross. Yet Jesus stays on the cross to “save” him and all of us. He did not come down from the cross. He knew that greater things would result from His death than what He had accomplished up until now. His death would nail sin and death and eventually it would lose its power. He would make a mockery of death by going through it Himself. He faced that issue and defeated it. He submitted to the will of God, which for him was a total offering of Himself under the worst of circumstances. It looked as though Jesus was caught, a loser, but He was the victor. This was an astronomical, divine plan. Jesus knew it and did not flinch. God used all that the world shuns – humility, obedience, suffering and death, and turned them inside out when Christ willingly took the guilt of all of us on Himself. He paid the insurance premium for us. In Him, Satan is defeated. When He rose, we rose. Jesus did not discard His human nature when He rose from the dead, because He represents all of us who one day will be there with Him. He has gone to prepare a place for us that where He is we also may be.

Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
