FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
The Sadducees were a group of men who were very conservative in their religious views. As we learn from the Gospels they did not believe in life after death, angels, or many of the common traditional beliefs of the Jews of their day. They were also politically active and used every opportunity to make their presence felt. So, they propose a problem to Jesus. The levirate law required a man to marry the childless widow of his brother. But these men complicate things to the extreme in order to make fun of the teaching. Jesus answers the dilemma. There is a resurrection because God is a God of the living, not of the dead. He tells Moses on the mountain that He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, patriarchs who lived years before Moses. They are not dead but alive in His presence. Not only do the dead survive physical death but they live as “angels”. That being so, no one marries in heaven. There is no need to raise a family there and we all live as brothers and sisters in that kingdom that has no end, where there is no death, suffering, pain or separation. Now that’s worth living for!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
