FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Two men are praying in the Temple. One is a Pharisee, which means one set apart from the group. In his own mind he is special. Thus, he is no ordinary Jew. As a matter of fact he tells God how good he is and lists his virtues. That’s not bad, but he is judging the other man and so is not so holy as he thinks he is. He believes God will reward him for all the merits he is telling God he has. He is patting himself on the back, while the other man is beating his breast, listing his sins and asking for mercy. He throws himself on the mercy of God, not comparing himself with the Pharisee. Jesus tells us that the sinner is heard and rewarded. He goes home justified, that is made right with God. Sin is no obstacle to God’s love and mercy. Our pride is. Who has not sinned? God is ready to forgive when we call upon his mercy. Absolution is only a prayer away.

QUESTIONS FROM THE PARISH COUNCIL CONTINUE:

QUESTION:
Why do people leave after Communion?
ANSWER:
Probably to get to the parking lot first. Some people may have a legitimate reason to leave at Communion time. The Eucharistic Ministers, and some of the parishioners have complained about it. Those who leave early have not fulfilled their Sunday obligation according to Canon Law. The Mass ends with the blessing of the priest, not at Communion time.
That brings me to another topic. As you know a few people do not park properly in the parking lot. Many times we have been warned: THE FIRE LANE has been blocked by parishioners who park near, or on the NO PARKING SIGNS painted on the driveway, or in the cul-de-sac in front of the Church. Nor are people allowed to double-park anywhere in the exit lanes of the Church’s parking lot. The police cannot ticket these automobiles because it is a private parking lot. But those cars are clearly parked in a zone that should be open for emergency vehicles to get in and out. For these two reasons, St. Barbara’s has been criticized by visitors and parishioners alike.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
