WE REMEMBER AT MASS IN A SPECIAL WAY THIS WEEKEND:
all our deceased loved ones, those whose names are inscribed in our Book of Remembrance, Members of St. Barbara’s Benefactor Society, and the following deceased:
Margaret Kelly; William Mullen; Robert Cook
Joan Curran; Judson & Paul Aiken; George Ray; Richard Heffernan; Anna Giordano; Geraldine Carpenter; Lawrence O’Keefe.
BULLETIN BITS
Today’s theme is perseverance - Moses keeping his hands upraised throughout the battle, Paul urging Timothy to stay with the task of preaching and teaching, and the widow appealing to the corrupt judge. To be faithful stewards of God’s gifts, we, too, must persevere in the roles to which we care called.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
We cannot manipulate God into doing what we want Him to do. Prayer is not bargaining. Have you ever prayed for someone’s healing and he or she died? Have you ever asked for something and got just the opposite? This is familiar territory. In today’s parable Jesus is telling us that God always hears our prayers and answers them. But do we always like the answer? Nevertheless, He can help us to resign to His will, which is the real effect of prayer. He helps us to take what comes out way. Prayer is not an act to force God’s hand, but to open us to His action wherever and whenever it occurs. Perhaps the attitude we should have when we pray is this: “Help me, O God, to accept your answer so that I can live without anger, judgment, resentment or feeling sorry for myself. I know that you have nothing but the best for me and those I love.”
QUESTIONS FROM THE PARISH COUNCIL CONTINUE;
QUESTION: DOES THE PRIEST GET TO KEEP THE SACRAMENTAL MONEY GIVEN AT THE TIME OF BAPTISM OR WEDDING?
ANSWER: No. The money given is called a stipend. We do not charge a fee for the sacraments. It is considered a good will offering. The stipend goes to the parish not to the priest. The donation, the stipend, is considered part of the parish subsidy, much like the Sunday offertory. If a Mass is celebrated, the priest celebrant may receive only $5.00 for the Mass, and that is considered part of his salary, so it is taxable income. Any gifts of money given to an individual priest, say at Christmas, birthday, etc., is considered part of his salary and is taxable.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
