FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
The rich man and the beggar in today’s parable, never met, never spoke with one another, and had nothing to do with one another on the surface. The rich man was preoccupied with his business, his investments, his social and family life. He had no idea how the beggar felt or understood what he was going through. The beggar, on the other hand, would sit outside the gate of his mansion, hoping for a morsel of food. He never got it. Everyone avoided him in tattered clothes that emitted fumes of filth, dirt and body odor. He was probably a leper since the dogs licked his wounds. He was one of the forgotten. No one spoke with him, or had anything to do with him. As a matter of fact they stayed as far away as possible. Yet, Jesus says he went to heaven and the rich man did not. Now it’s no sin to be rich so long as the rich share with the less fortunate. It’s no great honor to be poor either, but the poor have a strong defense in the Lord. They depend on Him for everything. And He takes care of them.
The members of the Parish Pastoral Council had some questions about parish, priestly life, etc., that they thought most folks had and would like to have them answered. So, for the next few weeks in this column I will attempt to do just that.
QUESTION: How much does a deacon get paid?
ANSWER: A deacon does not get paid for his ministries. So, be good to Deacon Jim Kerrigan. We are grateful for all that he does.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
