BOSTON CATHOLIC TV

The 16th telethon by Catholic TV will take place on Friday and Saturday, September 28th and 29th, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day. This year they will be broadcasting from their new television station in Watertown (formerly St. Patrick’s Convent). The investment interest from their endowment is not enough to cover their expenses. The annual telethon gives them the resources to continue to grow. They broadcast the Mass every weekday in the morning and evening, and Sunday morning; plus every day of the week they have television programs which will appeal to boys and girls and adults. Catholic TV speaks to them about their life with God in Christ Jesus. Obviously, the money they raise is essential. Perhaps even more important are the phone calls themselves. They have to prove to the cable companies that they can deliver an audience and the number of people who call help them to do just that.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Jesus scandalized people because He was so kind and merciful to sinners. The parables on the lost coin, the lost sheep and the prodigal son ticked some people off. They did not care for His easy approach to sinners. Of course we must never forget that those who criticized were also sinners, and needed His mercy. If He was harsh on them, how would they like it? When this gospel was written, Luke was well aware that the Church was being criticized because it was admitting pagans and sinners into the Church. So this gospel was written to remind critics that sinners are welcome. Luke reminds us that intolerance, prejudice and elitism, are not conducive to the gospel message. Everyone needs forgiveness. Unlike the elder son in the parable we should rejoice that they are coming home. We have no right to consign anyone to hell.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN

CMARC DANCE

St. Barbara’s sponsored a dance for the clients and support staff of CMARC which was a great success again this year. Nearly 150 folks from CMARC plus other guests enjoyed dance music provided by Fintan Stanley, delicious sandwiches by Chef Lynn Howell and wonderful desserts provided by caring parishioners. My thanks to everyone who helped make this fall celebration a memorable evening for CMARC clients.

HALF-WAY TO ST. PATRICK’S DAY

The third annual half-way to St. Patrick’s Day was another successful evening. Approximately 150 people danced to the music of Fintan Stanley. Again, refreshments at this event were provided by Chef Lynn Howell, while desserts were baked by parishioners and friends. Many raffles and door prizes were drawn to the delight of the winners. The amount raised was $1,817.00. My sincere thanks to all the committee members who worked hard to make this a happy time and a successful fundraiser.

WE INVITE YOU NEXT MONTH TO THE ITALIAN DINNER DANCE ON FRIDAY NIGHT OCTOBER 19TH.
