BULLETIN BITS

Jesus tells the crowd that only those who renounce all of their possessions can be His disciples. Is He truly asking us to give up everything? Perhaps instead He is trying to help us see that everything we think we own is really a gift from God. Good stewards know that and strive to use these gifts accountably.

ANNUAL APPEAL FOR THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA

This Sunday is the Annual Collection for the National University of the Catholic Church in the United States, in Washington, D.C. For more than 100 years the Catholic Univ. of America, founded by the American Bishops and chartered by the Vatican, has depended upon the generosity of parishioners throughout the U.S. to help financially deserving students afford a CUA education. Grounded in the philosophy of Catholic intellectual tradition, students receive an excellent liberal arts education that prepares them to make a difference in today’s world. Please give generously to the Annual Diocesan Collection for CUA today.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Jesus says ”Anyone who does not take up his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” What does He mean? Then He says: “If anyone comes to me without turning his back on his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters, indeed his very self, he cannot be my disciple.” That’s serious business. What He probably means is this: He wants us to be attached to Him first of all, not to money, fame or to the things others consider so important in life. We become what we love, what is first on our list. If it’s fame, money, power or popularity, we will lose out in life. If we love Jesus, everything falls into place. He will not have us abandon those we love, or who love us. He will not ask us to turn our backs on life, on our careers, or our commitments in life. He wants us to use our talents for His glory. What He will ask is that we put them all into proper perspective, that is, put them into His hands and get on with our lives. To do this is in a sense to “die” to self.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
