BULLETIN BITS

In today’s second reading, St. Paul encourages us not to grow weary or lose heart, but to persevere in following Jesus. Our willingness to give of ourselves, even in the face of conflict and division is one way to measure our discipleship

˝ WAY TO ST. PATRICK’S DAY FUNDRAISER

We have recently sent out letters and chance books to the registered members of St. Barbara’s Parish regarding the Fundraiser and dance. If you didn’t receive one in the mail both envelopes and chance books will be at all the doors of the church and also at the Rectory for the next three weeks. This Fundraiser and Dance will take place on Saturday, September 8th, 2007.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

In today’s gospel, Jesus says some strange things. He has not come to bring peace, but for division. What does He mean? Isn’t He the peacemaker? Well, in the days when the Gospel of Luke was put into writing, there were conflicts in the Church. There were external pressure from persecutions and conflict within the Church itself. Christians were finding it difficult to live the good news, in particular those Jews or Gentiles who were joining the faith. They were ostracized from family, synagogue and society. Their only family was the church. To be a Christian was a complete and total commitment to Christ. Their whole life changed. There would be conflicts among their loved ones and in some cases the families would disown them. They would be hated because they became a Christian. That’s what Jesus means when He says He has come not to bring peace, but fire – the Holy Spirit who will inflame the world. Following Him we cannot avoid taking a stand, and each day be open to conversion and growth.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
