The proceeds of this sale will be used to buy medical supplies for their mission to support the lepers.

THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 15th. The vigil Mass will be at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, August 14th, and there will be three Masses on Wednesday:
9:00 a.m., 12:05 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS

There are many places in America – Appalachia, the Deep South, the Southwest, the Rocky Mountain states – where the Catholic Church struggles just to keep parishes open and to educate children in the faith. Last year, Home Missions gave more than $3 million to the dioceses along the Golf Coast devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Please God, there will be no repetition of these disasters. But Catholic parishes in rural America still struggle to offer Mass, the sacraments, religious education. Some dioceses are terribly short of priests, sisters, and the money needed to run parishes. Please give generously to assist fellow Catholics here in America. The collection will be taken up next weekend August 18-19.

CONGRATULATIONS

BULLETIN BITS

Today’s Gospel urges us to give generously and thus build up treasure in heaven. For “wherever your treasure lies, there your heart will be.”

½ WAY TO ST. PATRICK’S DAY FUNDRAISER

Last week we sent out letters and chance books to the registered members of St. Barbara’s Parish regarding the Fundraiser and dance. This weekend, and following weekends, envelopes and chance books will be at all the doors of the church and also at the Rectory for those who did not receive them. This Fundraiser and Dance takes place on Saturday, September 8th, 2007.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Jesus promises to return. We don’t know when that will be. The early Christians, and the authors in the New Testament had the same idea; that His second coming would be soon. We are still waiting for His re-entry into our world. No one knows the exact day or hour. We have to be prepared. Yet, how many people. Christians included, live in the expectation of His coming. Busy with so many daily occupations and pressures, we tend to forget and get bogged down. Some people have problems with Jesus’ reality, not His eventual second coming. Does He even exist and, if so, why are things so bad? But for those who believe, the importance rather than the imminence of His coming is what matters.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
