FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
The Jews knew that love of God and love of neighbor were the more important commandments. But they thought of their neighbor was a fellow Israelite or a resident alien, never the Gentiles. So, when Jesus is asked by a lawyer, he relates the parable of the good Samaritan. There was no love lost between Samaritans and Jews. Centuries ago, when Israel was invaded, the Samaritans were led into captivity and intermarried with the pagans. Thus they were considered half-breeds, and no better than the Gentiles. Jesus makes the Samaritan the hero of the story. He alone has compassion on the man who was robbed, beaten, and left for dead. A true neighbor, a true Israelite, a true follower of Jesus is the one who treats others, regardless of race, color, or creed, as he would wish to be be treated. We cannot be prejudiced in the name of God. Is He not the Father of all who dwell on the face of the earth? What we do for them we do for Christ.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN

PRAYER FOR FREEDOM
Dear Lord,
So many today misunderstand freedom believing that it is the ability to do whatever we want. Help us always to remember that freedom, true freedom, is being able to do what we ought to do.
That freedom, true freedom, is not indulging our every want and whim, but instead is the ability to rise above any desires that are wrong, disordered, dangerous or excessive.
Give us the grace always to remember that true freedom makes us the people you wish us to be, that true freedom brings us closer to you, and reshapes our world in the likeness of your kingdom.
Amen.
