LITURGICAL NOTES

BAPTISMS
Baptism of infants will take place this Sunday, July 1st, at the 11:00 a.m. Mass.

BLACK & INDIAN MISSIONS COLLECTION

This collection, the weekend of July 8th, will support the United States Black, Indian, Eskimo, and Aleute Missions. The annual appeal is a vital part of the Church for the Year 2007. The funds are needed to continue present Evangelization programs; even more, to continue to assist those parishes that were devastated by hurricanes to totally rebuild their programs. Many places lost everything - and how soon we forget the rebuilding that needs to be done cannot be done overnight. Because of the generosity of the people of this parish and parishes around the U.S., last year over 8.8 million dollars were contributed to the Collection and 98 cents of every dollar was distributed. 135 dioceses received assistance from the collection. Through your gifts you join your sacrifice to those who sacrifice daily to lead others to Church. Please give what you are able. If we all give a little – a lot will be accomplished.

SODALITY MYSTERY AFERNOON

Edith Welch is planning a mystery trip on Sunday, September 16. The bus will leave the parking lot at 2 p.m. Will you call the rectory and let us know if this is something you might be interested in doing. If there is enough interest she will proceed with her plans.

YOUNG AT HEARTS

Our 5-day trip to Cape May, New Jersey, is on September 17-21 ($499 per person), double occupancy). All money for this trip is due Aug. 1.
Also, we will be having a trip to Johnson & Wales in Rhode Island, for lunch and a comedy play on Oct. 25, ($69 each) and a “Taste of Vermont (Home for the Holidays” overnight trip at $199 per person (includes a visit from the jolly man in the red suit bearing gifts for one and all).

INFORMATION FOR ANYONE BEING ADMITTED TO A HOSPITAL

Be sure to tell the Admitting Officer that you are a Catholic so that this information can be used if you need to see a chaplain or a priest.

FIRST FRIDAY SERVICES – JULY 6

Benediction after 9 a.m. Mass followed by adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Prayer Room. During July, August & September, the closing will be at 1 p.m. Please use the sign-up sheet at the Prayer Room door if you can spend a half-hour be-tween 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

A REMINDER

It is good to be reminded occasionally about the proper reception of the Eucharist. Please extend both hands, palms up, bow your head and say “Amen” in response to “Body of Christ.” If you choose to receive the Blood of Christ, accept the cup, bow your head and respond “Amen”, and take a small sip. Dipping the host in the cup is NOT acceptable, so please do not do that. We know you already know these things, but a little reminder is always helpful.

MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER

Give your marriage a well deserved vacation. Plan to go on a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend and come back with a marriage that is refreshed and full of energy! There are weekends each month in New England. For more information call Ray & Beth Ginepro at 1-800-710-WWME or visit our webpage at www.wwmeMA.org.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

We are always learning lessons about what discipleship means. Some people wanted to follow Jesus on their own terms. He taught His disciples several things. First, He did not come to destroy those who did not believe in Him or welcome Him. What kind of love would that be? It would not be love at all, but fear. What kind of faith is it that would force people to believe or else? That is fear, not faith. Jesus leaves everyone free to choose Him or not to choose Him. Those who wanted to follow could not put their comfort or earthly possessions before Him. Nor could one wait until he chose the right opportune time – because there will always be good reasons not to start out: an elderly parent, family obligations, problems, bank accounts to be settled, the business, etc. No, one had to abandon all the securities and put Jesus’ work first. No looking back, no living in the past with what might have been. He was the present and the future. The focus must be on Him, and then everything else turns out all right.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN

CAMPAIGN IN SUPPORT OF MARRIAGE

The Catholic Bishops in Massachusetts have announced a statewide prayer and educational cam-paign in support of the vocation of marriage. The first phase of this campaign is one of prayer. The bishops have produced a Marriage Prayer card which you will find at the doors of the church. Please take one for yourself and additional cards for family members and friends. The Cardinal has asked us to make an effort to pray the prayer daily, individually and with family and friends when possible. This initial time of prayer and reflection on the importance of our Catholic teaching on marriage will be followed by an educational phase of the campaign in the coming months
