FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Today is the feast of the birth of John the Baptist. His mother’s name is Elizabeth. His father, Zechariah, was a priest, and thus John was a member of the Jewish priesthood. As far as we know, he never served in the Temple as a priest. He was probably six months older than Jesus. John’s name – Johanan – means “God is gracious”. His mother and father were childless and the birth of John made them extremely happy. His father at his birth proclaimed: “And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare His ways.” We sometimes think a prophet is a person who predicts the future. In the New Testament a prophet is one who proclaims the Lord – makes Him real in this world – by preaching and teaching the Word of God. And, secondly, by portraying His image in word and action. All of us have been given that privilege through our baptism and confirmation.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

MINUTEMAN SENIOR SERVICES

Minuteman Senior Services is a non-profit agency that provides practical solutions to long-term cares so that homebound seniors can stay safely in their homes. We need your help in recruiting substitute or regular volunteer drivers, especially over the summer months. This is a long-standing program serving hot and cold meals to our most vulnerable seniors five days a week, 52 weeks a year. Drivers drop off 1 to 15 meals on a consistent route so that they get to know the seniors they serve. Many drivers feel it is a most satisfying experience. Homebound seniors in Bedford, Lexington and Woburn need help getting a mid-day meal delivered on weekdays. This is a perfect job to do with a friend, or share a route on alternate weeks. Drivers receive mileage reimbursement of 42 cents per mile, plus satisfaction in providing this essential service. Call Minuteman Senior Services, 781-221-7023, or toll free 888-222-6171 or e-mail dbarr@minutemansenior.org .
