BULLETIN BITS

Peter, James and John wanted to build a “booth” for Jesus and just stay on the mountain where His transfiguration took place. But the Son of God, the Chosen One, knew that He must instead keep moving towards His crucifixion. We, too, must rise from worship and do what we can to hasten the coming of the kingdom.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Last week Jesus was tempted in the desert, and we saw Him grappling with the powers of evil. This week we see Him transformed on the mountain. Peter, James and John get a glimpse into His divine Sonship. Moses and Elijah appear. God speaks: “This is My Son, My Chosen one. Listen to Him.” It all seems so glorious, so triumphant, so heavenly. Yet, what is the topic of conversation? Jesus’ impending death in Jerusalem. Jesus stands above all the prophets. He will fulfill the prophecies. The apostles do not know what to make of it all. Jesus tells them to say nothing until He rises from the dead, which they did not comprehend. You notice they had to come down from the mountain and get back to the real world. The transfiguration is only a temporary moment of glory. The eternal moment of glory is the resurrection. And so it will be with us. No glory here, but there is one to come. The ups and downs are part of our life journey as well. But we are not alone. We follow Him.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
