BULLETIN BITS
Today’s first reading describes the offering of first fruits the people of Israel were to present to the Lord in thanksgiving for their deliverance from Egypt and the gift of the promised land. Is my offering at today’s Mass an appropriate response to the many blessings the Lord has given me?

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
We have begun the season of Lent with ashes and a firm resolution to “die to self.” Jesus was tempted. Will He be a political Messiah; will He use His miraculous powers for Himself; will He give in to ambition, the urges of human
nature? His temptations are real. He was tempted to choose either Satan’s way, or that of His Father. Temptation is an opportunity to “die to self” or give in to self. Satan tempts him in His humanity and divinity. If you are the Son of God…” He knew Jesus was and Satan was using that to trip Him up. In other words: “As Son of God, with all your powers, don’t fast, don’t die on a cross. Do it my way and all of the power and majesty is yours. You will be a sensation, you will have everything anyone could want. Don’t be a fool. It’s all yours. Just do it my way. The other way is too difficult.” Jesus refused.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

WHY WE CALL IT LENT!
Lent, from an Old English word for Spring, is known as Quadrigesima, or “forty” in Latin. 40 days is a Biblical symbol for a special time of preparation. The Lenten fast & abstinence from meat in most parts of the world is confined to Ash Wednesday and Fridays during Lent.
