BULLETIN BITS

Today’s Gospel has encouraging words for good stewards – “Give and it shall be given to you. For the measure you measure with will be measured back to you.” What encouragement to give generously of the resources entrusted to our care!

SECOND COLLECTION

Each year, the annual Peter’s Pence collection, in support of the works of the Holy Father, is held on the First Sunday of Lent. Through our works of charity, Catholics provide a quiet but powerful witness of love and deeds to empower the weak, the defenseless and the voiceless, and to sustain those who suffer. Please give generously to this collection next weekend, February 24/25th.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

No one can deny that Jesus did not give us the ultimate example of what love is. He forgave His enemies on the cross; He forgave those who hated Him and plotted for His death. He went back to God in perfect conscience and clear of any hatred or anger. Thus, he fulfilled God’s will perfectly; he accepted His terrible suffering and death and redeemed humanity because He loved us. His mercy far exceeded what justice would have demanded. And Jesus tells us to forgive and to love those who have hurt us. That doesn’t deny we have been hurt, perhaps unjustifiably. It goes beyond the hurt and releases their hold on us, and our hold on them. Thus, we are free to live again and the burden is off our shoulders. This has physical repercussions – we feel better. That’s what letting go means. To let go, to forgive is supernatural in its power, but in time it becomes natural to those who follow Jesus’ example. We must want to forgive, but the process begins when we invite Jesus into our hearts to empower us to love and forgive. Then we can forgive – let go and begin to live in the freedom of the Spirit.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
