BULLETIN BITS

The words of the Psalmist echo the theme of all of today’s readings. “Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.” As good stewards, firmly grounded in that hope, may we bear fruit in due season – assisting the poor, feeding the hungry; and consoling the sorrowful whenever we have a chance.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Every time this Gospel is read, the thought comes to me, “How would Jesus do in a campaign for public office if He were running?” Imagine saying that the poor are blessed, those who hunger are blessed, those who mourn are blessed, those who are hated should rejoice.” No candidate would speak thus. All kinds of promises would be made to ensure the voters that their lives would be prosperous and comfortable. Not Jesus. He tells it the way it is with His administration. He knows what He is talking about because He is really giving us an insight into Himself who, though He is God, humbled Himself to become one of us, experiencing our humanity so that He could redeem us. In other words His Father and He have a preference for the poor, the hungry, those who are hurting, not for those who are secure in money or power. He can do nothing for them because they do not need him. We are blessed in all of this if we place our hope in God.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

  • Friends see only the stars in your eyes (and never the wrinkles around them).
  • What a wonderful place the world would be if we thought of each new person we meet as a friend waiting to be discovered.
