BULLETIN BITS

In today’s second reading, St. Paul tells the Corinthians (and us) that all of our gifts are from God and that they are given, not for ourselves alone, but for the common good. But the generosity of God knows no limits – the miracle at Cana reminds us that whenever we faithfully do as God asks, He can change our gifts of water into wine!

BIBLE STORY HOUR FOR YOUNG CHILDREN

Kristine Newcomb, a parishioner with young children, will again be hosting a pre-school Bible story hour for youngsters home during the day. The sessions are free and will be held on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the parish hall. A parent or responsible adult must be present with the child. You may contact Kristine at 781-935-5249.

TAX DEDUCTIONS

Due to recent changes in the federal tax laws for charitable contributions, beginning in 2007, parishioners who itemize deductions on Schedule A of their tax returns will no longer be able to deduct contributions to the parish unless they maintain a bank record or receive a written contribution statement from the parish. Cash contributions that are not in a parish envelope cannot be tracked by the parish and will not be included in the year-end contribution statement. To ensure deductibility for 2007 contributions to our parish, the following payment methods are recommended:
  1. Use of parish envelopes
  2. Written check made payable to the parish
  3. Direct deposit from your bank account
  4. Payroll deduction.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Many times in the Hebrew Scriptures, the image of a banquet or a wedding feast symbolized the unity of God with His people. The bride and the bridegroom were familiar themes and the church, the bride. In the New Testament it is a Messianic wedding feast. Jesus, the Christ, the Anointed One, pours out His love, His spirit, symbolized by the wine. Wine is a very good symbol of life, love and the joy of friendship. It can also stand for the grace of Jesus Christ. At Cana, the first miracle in John’s Gospel, Jesus works a miracle for the bride and groom, at His mother’s request. This can be interpreted in several ways. Jesus can change water into wine, problems into opportunities. He can give His spirit, His wine to mellow a situation and make it better. He can put effervescence, zip, life, back into a dying relationship, where forgiveness and understanding come to the surface. Through communication with Him a marriage can be renewed and rejuvenated. The monotonous things of life, the everyday struggles, the supposedly unimportant things spouses do for one another, and their families, can become moments of grace and joy because they are done in Him. “Without Me you can do nothing.”
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

CROSS INTERNATIONAL CATHOLIC OUTREACH

Next Sunday our Parish welcomes Rev. Edward Winkler who come to us on behalf of Cross International Catholic Outreach. Parishes in underdeveloped countries represent more than an important source of spiritual truth for their community. They also stand as a beacon of hope for impoverished families who have nowhere else to turn for help. Come and hear how we can make a difference in the lives of our less fortunate brothers & sisters in the Third World.
