BULLETIN BITS

Both widows in today’s readings gave all they had to the work of the Lord, one using all her remaining food to feed Elijah and the other offering her two copper coins to the temple treasury. Faithful stewards give all that is asked and trust the Lord to be faithful to His promises.

P.R.E.P.

As most of you know, every parish and Catholic school in the archdiocese has been mandated to teach the personal safety curriculum, “Talking About Touching”, as part of the curriculum of our religion program for Grades 1 – 6. An information session will be presented by Lillian Hardcastle, on November 16 at 7:30 in the Fr. Anadore hall, for parents to hear about the curriculum, see the lessons, and ask any questions that you may have.

MASS OF REMEMBRANCE

We would like to commend all those involved in our annual Mass of Remembrance on Sat., Nov. 4th. To Dee Ahern and her committee, members of St. Barbara’s choir, our organist, John Donovan, and all who baked and served or helped in any way, we are most grateful. It was a poignant, beautiful moment for the Parish.

THE CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

this special collection will be taken up next weekend, November 18/19. We hope that this Campaign’s dynamic self-help initiative, a source of hope for so many, will continue to receive your generous support.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

In today’s gospel there is a contrast between the wealthy and a poor widow. In the collection she puts all she had to live on, whereas the wealthy put in what is not going to make a dent in their income. She gives everything because she has faith in God. She is not afraid. He will take care of her. Someone will see her need and lend a hand. This woman, whose name we do not know, stands for the faithful of all time who depend, not on their own resources, but the strength of God. Jesus is pleased with her offering. She will not go without help. It is no sin to have money, but the “daily bread” God gives us has to be shared with those who do not have. In this way God increases our love, our faith and maybe our pocketbook. Those who trust in Him are never without the necessities of life.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
