BULLETIN BITS

Today’s second reading warns that a heart consumed with avarice and envy leads to jealously, strife, conflicts and disputes. A giving heart, in contrast, can sing instead with the psalmist, “Freely will I offer you sacrifice; I will praise your name, O Lord, for its goodness.”

St. Barbara’s will be holding the Ministry Fair Renewal on the weekend of Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, after all the Masses, in the Fr. Anadore Hall. FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Jesus gives us a prediction that He is going to die by crucifixion. They did not understand and would not ask Him about it. They did not want to hear the truth because they had other ideas of greatness. Their conversation turned to other things, such as who would be the greatest in His kingdom. They were talking about power, authority, wealth and a host of other possibilities. They had no clue as to what kind of kingdom it would be. They are filled with hopes and dreams of positions of prestige and power. Jesus asks them what they were discussing on the road. Embarrassed and flushed they would not answer. Yet Jesus knew what they were talking about. So He places a young child in their midst and teaches them that simplicity and service are the hallmarks of His kingdom. Want to be great? Do good and forget about it.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
