BULLETIN BITS

“Every worthwhile gift, every genuine benefit, comes from above,” says Saint James in the second reading. But, he reminds us, true worship of God involves using those good gifts to benefit the less fortunate. Good stewardship is not optional; it is the hallmark of our faith.

SCRIPTURAL ROSARY

On Saturday, Sept. 9th, at noon, all are welcome to join in praying the Scriptural Rosary. We especially pray for peace in the world and for a conversion for those who have turned away from God. This month we will meet in the Father Anadore Hall. Bring your own petitions.

WINCHESTER HOSPITAL ADULT VOLUNTEER STAFF

invite all men and women in the many communities served by the hospital to attend an orientation for prospective adult volunteers on Wednesday, Sept. 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Winchester Hospital Conference Center 1, 41 High land Ave., Winchester. For information call 781-756-2625.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

In keeping the law in its smallest detail, the scribes and Pharisees went overboard, making multiple laws and rules, thus making their prescriptions more important than what God was asking them to do. What was happening was that the law was more important than the love that should have motivated them. There was no heart but only law. Is it not the heart that matters most in worship? Our religious behavior must always express the faith and love in our hearts, not fear or pride. Law without the heart is legalism, which seeks to justify itself by external observances – lip service – but is without faith; and heart without any law is reckless because it can lead to a freedom that is selfish and does not take others into consideration. The one law Jesus stressed was love which covered all circumstances and situations. If one loves, one does not harm one’s neighbor. There is no more difficult law than to love one’s neighbor as oneself.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
FATHER VIN
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARISH SO FAITHFULLY AND WE ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO OUR PARISHIONERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.
